The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an early-career IT Systems Administrator to support the day-to-day technology needs of an insurance-focused organisation. Located in Pickering, Ontario, this role is best suited to an individual who has developed a solid foundation in IT support and systems administration. The position requires an understanding of the importance of security, reliability, and confidentiality within an insurance environment.
The Role
The IT Systems Administrator provides day-to-day technical support to employees across hardware, software, network, and access-related issues. Reporting to the Office Manager, the successful candidate will maintain user accounts, support Microsoft 365 applications, configure office technology, and troubleshoot basic connectivity issues. This on-site role supports an insurance brokerage environment, requiring strict adherence to security and privacy standards while assisting with technology onboarding, system updates, and coordination with external IT vendors.
What You'll Do
- Provide day-to-day technical support to employees across hardware, software, network, and access-related issues
- Set up and maintain user accounts, permissions, email, and system access
- Support Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
- Assist with Microsoft Entra ID / Active Directory user and device administration
- Configure and support Windows desktops, laptops, printers, and other office technology
- Troubleshoot connectivity, VPN, Wi-Fi, and basic network issues
- Support insurance brokerage or insurance-related business applications used by employees
- Coordinate with external IT vendors, software providers, and telecommunications providers when required
- Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding from a technology and access perspective
- Perform routine software updates, device maintenance, backups, and security checks
- Monitor and respond to common endpoint security and access issues
- Maintain IT asset inventories, system documentation, and internal support procedures
- Escalate complex infrastructure, cybersecurity, or application issues when required
- Assist with technology projects, system upgrades, and software implementations
- Support appropriate handling and protection of confidential client and business information
What You Bring
- 1–3 years of hands-on IT support, systems administration, help desk, or technical support experience
- Previous exposure to the insurance industry, insurance brokerage operations, or insurance technology systems
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, Windows desktop operating systems, and common business applications
- Basic understanding of Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, user access, and basic network issues
- Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals including passwords, MFA, phishing, endpoint protection, and access controls
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive business information appropriately
- Experience with IT ticketing or help desk systems
- Experience supporting SharePoint, Teams, or cloud-based business applications
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls
- Experience supporting an insurance brokerage management system or insurance-related software platform
Preferred Qualifications
- College diploma or university degree in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Network Administration, or a related field
- Exposure to Microsoft Intune or endpoint management tools
- Exposure to backup, disaster recovery, or cybersecurity tools
- Microsoft, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or similar entry-level IT certifications

About the Opportunity
This is a hands-on IT role intended for someone in the early stages of their systems administration career. The position does not require senior-level infrastructure architecture, advanced networking, or extensive cybersecurity experience. The successful candidate should be comfortable resolving everyday technology issues independently while escalating more complex matters to senior resources or external service providers.
