The Opportunity
Star Staffing is building a network of Construction Estimators for future opportunities with general contractors, subcontractors, developers, construction managers, engineering firms, and related employers. This campaign is intended for estimating professionals across commercial, residential, industrial, civil, infrastructure, and specialty construction. This posting is not tied to a specific current vacancy, and candidates may be contacted about relevant opportunities based on their experience and preferences.
The Role
Future Construction Estimator opportunities may involve preparing cost estimates, reviewing drawings and specifications, coordinating subcontractor pricing, assessing project risks, and supporting competitive construction bids. Roles may range from Junior Estimator through Intermediate, Senior Estimator, and Preconstruction positions. The specific project type, contract structure, and estimating responsibilities will depend on the employer.
What You'll Do
- Review construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and tender documents.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Develop labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost assumptions.
- Identify scope gaps, project risks, exclusions, and pricing considerations.
- Prepare bid summaries, tender submissions, and estimating documentation.
- Maintain historical pricing, estimating databases, and cost information.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Participate in bid reviews, site visits, and preconstruction meetings.
- Support value engineering and alternative construction approaches.
- Assist with handover of awarded projects to project delivery teams.
- Monitor market pricing and construction cost trends.
What You Bring
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, labour, and sequencing.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and tender submissions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Authorization to work in Canada for the applicable opportunity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous estimating experience with a general contractor, subcontractor, developer, or construction manager.
- Experience with commercial, residential, civil, infrastructure, industrial, or institutional projects.
- Experience with estimating software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Planswift, CostX, HeavyBid, or similar platforms.
- Experience preparing lump-sum, stipulated-price, design-build, or construction management estimates.
- Knowledge of GTA and Ontario subcontractor and supplier markets.
- Gold Seal Certification or progress toward a relevant professional designation.
- Experience with preconstruction, budgeting, or value engineering.
